Breve storia delle comunicazioni satellitari. Principali caratteristiche delle costellazioni orbitali più usate (GEO, LEO, MEO, HEO): caratteristiche geometriche dei collegamenti, effetti del ritardo di propagazione. Canale di propagazione: propagazione troposferica (modello ITU) e principali contromisure, cenni ai principali modelli di propagazione per canali mobili, diversità di satellite. Cenni sulle problematiche di strato fisico: modulazione, codifica, interallacciamento, copertura multifascio, interferenza cocanale, rigenerazione a bordo. Allocazioni dello spettro per sistemi satellitari. Dimensionamento. Organismi di standardizzazione e regolamentazione. Accesso multiplo: tecniche classiche di accesso multiplo ad assegnazione fissa (FDMA, TDMA, CDMA), tecniche ad accesso casuale, tecniche di assegnazione su domanda e a prenotazione di pacchetto. Handover. Cenni sullo standard DVB-S e DVB-S2. Architetture per la diffusione di programmi televisivi. Cenni sul DAB. Carico utile di comunicazione: funzioni e schemi di principio. Apparati di bordo. Aspetti di rete: architetture e prestazioni di sistemi con interfaccia IP. Incapsulamento di flussi IP su DVB. Prestazioni di TCP/IP via satellite, tecniche PEP. Sistemi basati su standard DVB/IP e DVB RCS. Sicurezza di rete. Qualità del servizio. Il segmento di terra ed i relativi apparati. Funzionalità del NCC. Applicazioni e servizi: servizi mobili e fissi, servizi multimediali. Procedure di controllo della chiamata, handover e call set up. Integrazione con sistemi terrestri. Handover in sistemi integrati. Analisi di mercato, principali modelli previsionali di costi di sviluppo e di penetrazione di mercato. cenni sulla componente satellitare dell’UMTS. Progettazione di una rete di telecomunicazioni satellitari mediante i principali sistemi già operativi o in via di realizzazione.

Obiettivi:
Presentare allo studente i nuovi paradigmi di rete emersi negli ultimi anni con particolare riferimento a soluzioni distribuite per il controllo del trasferimento dell'informazione in rete. Il corso sara' principalmente incentrato sull'analisi delle soluzioni piu' significative per
i) la realizzazione di interconnessioni di rete a qualita' del servizio garantita (IP QoS e Routing);
ii) la realizzazione di reti private per aziende ed enti distribuiti sul territorio (Virtual Private Network);
Il corso affrontera' aspetti algoritmici, protocollari, tecnologici e prestazionali. Circa un terzo del corso e' dedicato ad esercitazioni di laboratorio basate su OS Linux e Cisco, in cui lo studente mette in pratica sul proprio laptop la teoria trattata.
